In this lunchtime concert, UMO Helsinki Ensemble pays tribute to the trumpet legend and vocalist Chet Baker (USA 1929–1988).

As a trumpeter, Baker was a pioneer of West Coast cool jazz in the 1950s. His singing represented a soft and intimate crooner style. This concert features the most beloved classics of Baker, like My Funny Valentine, which has become his trademark. Baker died on the dark side of bohemian life under the age of 60.

“Chet Baker played trumpet like a dream and sang softly like a starry night.”

The UMO Helsinki Ensemble is a smaller musical group assembled from the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, whose musicians have a long career both in the ranks of the UMO and in numerous individual projects. The program for the concert was planned by trumpeter Mikko Pettinen, who leads the ensemble but also sings.

Duration 1 hour.
