Jazz for lunch – yes please! The Savoy Theatre’s and UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra’s much-anticipated lunch concerts continue in the spring season of 2026! The free concert tickets can be reserved from Wednesday 22nd April at 3 pm onwards at the Savoy Theatre and Lippu.fi, see below for more detailed instructions.
In the lunch concert in May, the soulful jazz melodies and improvisation of jazz meet the exuberant rhythms of Latin America! Let the rhythm transport you to the smoky jazz clubs of New York and the warmth of Cuba and Brazil.
The roots of Latin Jazz go back to the beginning of the 20th century when Cuban immigrants brought their syncopated rhythms to the US and influenced the pioneering composers of the time. The genre got its proper breakthrough in New York in the 1940s when Cuban musicians brought together jazz with Cuban dance rhythms such as mambo and rumba. Later in the 1950s and 1960s, Brazilian influences enriched the genre with softer samba rhythms, giving birth to bossa nova. Latin jazz is a musical dialogue between different continents – good-humoured, energetic and inviting to dance!
The smaller UMO Helsinki Ensemble, with musicians from the UMO, is led by the lead trombone player Kasperi Sarikoski, who has also planned the concert programme. The concert is part of UMO’s 50th anniversary season.
Please note! The concert will be held in the Savoy Theatre at 12-13. The admission is free but we recommend that you book a ticket in advance at the Savoy Theatre box office (0 €) or Lippu.fi (1,50 – 3 € commission). Admission only with pre-booked tickets until 11:50am, after which the remaining seats will be given to customers without a pre-booking. Please arrive early as the doors will be closed once the concert has started. The duration of the concert is 1 hour.
