UMO is recruiting: 2nd alto saxophone vacancy

UMO HELSINKI JAZZ ORCHESTRA is recruiting for the permanent position of 2nd alto saxophone. In addition to excellent alto saxophone playing skills, the role requires professional mastery of the soprano saxophone, clarinet and flute. In addition to section playing skills, the sought-after musician will have excellent soloing skills.

APPLICATIONS AND ATTACHMENTS must be submitted to no later than Wednesday 30 November 2022 at 23:59. Attach a curriculum vitae to the application, which shows information about education, side instrument skills and activities as a musician.

THERE WILL BE A PRE-SELECTION AUDIO ROUND before a live audition, the detailed instructions and necessary material will be sent to applicants who have met the application requirements on Monday December 5 2022.

AFTER THE PRE-SELECTION STAGE, successful applicants will be invited to a live audition. The auditions will be held on 30/1– 2/2/2023 at Avanti’s training hall, Kaapelitehdas (B-hall, 1st floor, Tallberginkatu 1, 00180 Helsinki). The audition has three rounds, the first two of which are behind a screen. The audition consists of solo and section playing with and without rhythm section accompaniment. There will also be sight-reading and improvisation tasks. Selection takes place between each stage. The final stage is an interview. 

SALARY 3026–3318 €/month. In addition, clothing and musical instrument compensation according to UMO’s collective agreement. The vacancy has a six-month trial period. The vacancy will be filled from 1 August 2023 or according to the agreement. The person selected must present an acceptable medical certificate regarding their health before accepting the position.

UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra is a professional Finnish big band, performing new jazz and related music across the board. Annually, UMO plays live in approximately one hundred concerts and other events.
