The UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra visits Travemünde, Germany at the Classical Beat Festival in July. In its concert on Tuesday, July 23, UMO interprets Duke Ellington’s music under the direction of conductor Ed Partyka.

In addition to evergreens from the Duke Ellington Orchestra’s early New York years, such as Concerto For Cootie, Braggin’ In Brass and Blue Cellophane, UMO has in its luggage a few of the most important compositions from Duke Ellington’s and his composition partner Billy Strayhorn’s pen. These include e.g. excerpts from the Far East Suite and the rarely heard Peer Gynt Suite. It’s going to be an unforgettable evening with precise and compact ensemble playing, driving swing, beautiful ballads and fantastic solos.

The annual Classical Beat Festival combines classical music and other music genres and creates new, exciting listening experiences with its ambitious programming. The event is known for its wonderful setting, unique atmosphere and legendary performances. www.classicalbeat.de
