UMO Helsinki Ensemble:
The Blues and the Abstract Truth
Thu 5th August 2021 at 1 pm // Musiikkitalo, Main Foyer, Helsinki
Duration c. 45 min
The concert will be played at the Main Foyer, instead of Paavo Hall.
In the spotlight of this concert is one of the essential post-bop jazz albums, The Blues and the Abstract Truth, released in 1961.
American saxophonist and composer Oliver Nelson (1932–1975) gathered together the greatest jazz musicians of his time: Eric Dolphy, Paul Chambers, Freddie Hubbard, Bill Evans, George Barrow and Roy Haynes. The acclaimed septet album is known of its unique arrangements and the opening track Stolen Moments quickly became a jazz standard. As the name implies, the album’s compositions are based on the structures and moods of blues. Now the album is interpreted by UMO Helsinki Ensemble, which is a smaller ensemble picked from UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra’s sections.
Tickets € 6.50 from Ticketmaster, incl. delivery fees.
The concert will be organised with special arrangements in accordance with the official regulations in force during the event. E.g., tickets are sold for only limited number of people, and the audience is seated in the auditorium with fair safety intervals. The seats are positioned so that the audience does not come into close contact with each other or the performers.
Concert belongs to AUF concert series co-produced with Musiikkitalo, UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra Avanti and Finnish Baroque Orchestra.
