Jazztasting is a musical journey into different flavours of jazz and big band music: you will get familiar with big band arrangement, improvisation, themes and dynamics by hearing some of the most legendary compositions of Duke Ellington, Thad Jones, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillepie, Herbie Hancock and Bob Brookmeyer. The orchestra will be conducted by Ville Vannemaa.

The jazz police will not be admitted in this learning environment, so everyone are free to taste jazz in their preferred way, with or without expertise.

The online concert is a recording. It can be watched on the YouTube channels of the municipalities of Askola, Sipoo, Porvoo, Mäntsälä and Loviisa for free from 20 to 27 May 2021. There is both Finnish and Swedish version of this concert.  

The online concert is part of the AUF project, in which three orchestras – the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra (FiBO) – produce concerts in collaboration with the Porvoo Region Music College and municipalities. The municipal partners of 2021 are Askola, Sipoo, Porvoo, Mäntsälä, Loviisa and Pukkila.

UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestras Jazztasting erbjuder smakprov på blåa melodier, läcker groove, och odödliga klassiker! Jazzpolisen råkar ni inte på under dessa festligheter, så alla får smaka på jazzen enligt egen preferens, mer eller mindre sakkunnigt.

Den 100-prosentigt musikinriktade Jazztastingen bjuder som förrätt på lätta toner, varifrån vi förflyttar oss taktfullt mot allt starkare sensationer. Vifta på öronen mellan smakproven för att neutralisera sinnena och kom ihåg att njuta av jazzen med måtta!

Tasting-menyns särpräglade tema är de olika medel som använts för att atrrangera big band -musik, bl.a. i Duke Ellingtons, Count Basies, Thad Jones och Dizzy Gillespies låtar. Under tastingen blir gästerna bekanta med jazzmusikens terminologi och koncept, så som imrpovisering, tematik och dynamik. Orkestern leds av kapellmästare Ville Vannemaa.

Ni kan närmare bekanta er med programmet genom att läsa den digitala versionen av UMO Helsinkis serietidning. Serietidningen ger en humoristisk inledning in i UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestras, jazzens och big band-musikens värld, och erbjuder också en möjlighet till ytterligare fördjupning in i programmets innehåll.
