“One of the greatest trumpet players of all times”, is the common opinion about the American trumpet player Thad Jones among jazz historians.
Nevertheless, Jones was first and foremost an arranger and a composer. He worked together with Count Basie Orchestra, The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra and the Danish Radio Big Band. Even today his compositions form a big part of the main repertoire of big bands.
Usually orchestras only play some greatest hits of the comprehensive list of compositions by Thad Jones. This lunch concert is an exception, as UMO performs some of the less-known masterpieces of Jones. The audience can expect to hear elegant big band fun and lively solos!
The conductor of the concert is Ville Vannemaa.
The concert is played at Savoy Theatre at 12–1 p.m. and is free of charge. It is possible to book a ticket for free from the outlets of City of Helsinki Cultural office (Savoy Theatre, Vuotalo, Malmitalo, Stoa or Kanneltalo) or for a fee of €1 from Lippupiste.
