Thu 12 January 2023 at noon // Savoy Theatre, Helsinki
Duration 1 h.
How about some jazz for lunch?
The very popular lunch concert concept of Savoy Theatre and UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra is back for one concert in January 2023!
UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra gets new talents for its soloists from the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences’ music degree program.
Kamilla Kavala, Chiara Orlandi, Elina Kardén, Chiara Galvani and Iina Johanson shine as UMO’s vocal soloists. Risto Kauppinen, Sakurako Ishiyama and Laura Helander complete the front sax row. The orchestra’s rhythm section is completely renewed, as Sonja Kaipainen masters the piano, Aaron Koskelainen takes up the bass and Luukas Viskari the guitar. On drums we have Metropolia’s lecturer Tommi Rautiainen.
UMO and young talents are guided by chief conductor and artistic director Ed Partyka, a pedagogue who teaches at several European universities.
Note! Same concert will be played next day at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences’ Arabia campus. More information here.
The concert will feature the music made famous by one of the most significant vocalists in our jazz history, Ella Fitzgerald. During the big band golden period, Fitzgerald recorded a number of beloved songs such as It’s Only a Paper Moon, Cheek to Cheek and Lullaby of Broadway.
The concert is part of UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra’s audience outreach and cooperation with Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
Please note! The concert will be held in the Savoy Theatre at 12-13. The admission is free but it is recommendable to book a ticket in advance at the Savoy Theatre box office (0 €) or Lippupiste (1,50 – 3 € commission). Pre-tickets admit the audience until 11:50am, after which the remaining seats will be given to customers without a pre-booking. Please arrive early for the doors will be closed once the concert has started.
