Sat 1 October 2022 at 7 pm // Musiikkitalo, Helsinki
Duration about 2 h 15 min, including intermission
The Hietalahti Soi music festival, which nurtures the heartbeat of the inner city, visits the Paavo hall of the Musiikkitalo. The Finnish jazz all stars team UMO Helsinki Ensemble will take the stage, with the guest of the multidisciplinary international group Tango Alakulo Ensemble.
The conductor of the concert is trumpeter and artistic director of Hietalahti Soi festival Tero Saarti.
The Umo Helsinki Ensemble consists of players whose musical collaboration has continued for more than a couple of decades. In this concert, the ensemble sticks to domestic classic tunes. Melodies and arrangements lead the listener into the secrets of the small band’s refined groove.
Tango Alakulo Ensemble’s music is not traditional tango, but a synthesis boldly combining different musical styles. In addition to the instrumentals, the concert will feature rap style songs made in collaboration with writer Roman Schatz and musician/producer Pauli Rantasalmi.
UMO Helsinki Ensemble: Tero Saarti (trumpet), Manuel Dunkel (saxophone), Ville Herrala (bass), Markus Ketola (drums)
Tango Alakulo Ensemble: Christian Garrick (electric violin), David Gordon (keyboards), Jarmo Julkunen (ukulele, banjo, guitar), Roman Schatz (speech, vocals, lyrics)
