Helsinki Design Week: UMO & Aili Ikonen:
Blue Notes on Silver Screen – Open Rehearsal
Fri 7th September 2018 at 12.30 pm // Cable Factory, Helsinki
Duration approx. 2 hours.
The event is part of Helsinki Design Week’s programme.
UMO opens the doors of its rehearsal space to celebrate Helsinki Design Week. To conform Helsinki Design Week´s theme “Trust“, UMO lets the audience as close as possible to hear as the final touches are put to the program “Blue Notes on Silver Screen – Jazz in Cinema“.
Concert Blue Notes on Silver Screen comprises well-known and beloved score themes and nostalgic big band music from the 50s to today. The dazzling jazz singer Aili Ikonen will join UMO as a soloist, and the concert will be conducted by Kirmo Lintinen. Be prepared for iconic tunes that will make you cry, laugh and be stirred inside!
The programme will be composed of music from many film genres – animation to horror and hardboiled action – including numbers from such films as Anatomy of A Murder, Touch of Evil, The Pink Panther and The Incredibles. The concert will feature pieces from the repertories of Duke Ellington, Raymond Scott, Henry Mancini and Monty Norman, among others.
Jazz and cinema were born around the same time, in late 19th century, but blue notes hit the silver screen big time only in the 50s and 60s when large string orchestras were replaced by the energy of big bands.
The event is part of Helsinki Design Week’s programme. The largest design festival in the Nordic countries is held from 6–16 September 2018.
