The Jazz Messengers was a sextet founded and run by Art Blakey, operating in an ever-changing lineup from the 1950s until early 1990s. The band’s trademark was aggressively swinging, bebop-based blues-toned Hard Bop. The band was a runway for young talented jazz musicians, such as Wayne Shorter, Benny Golson, Freddie Hubbart, Keith Jarrett, Wynton and Branford Marsalis, who all have sprung up from this band.

The online concert can be watched free of charge at Helsinkikanava.fi from Tue 26th January at 1 pm, until Fri 26th February. Duration approx. 50 min, no intermission.

UMO Helsinki Ensemble is a smaller ensemble collected together from UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra’s sections. All the musicians have an extensive career in UMO as well as in their own projects.
