These audience outreach concerts are only for the residents of Kustaankartano and Kinapori Senior Centers.
The concerts will be played outside the senior houses as park concerts – safety first! The audience will follow the concerts from a distance and/or from the balconies.
For these afternoon concerts, conductor Ville Vannemaa has curated a nostalcig programme: the emphasis will be on laid-back, airy and swinging tunes from two cornerstones of the big band canon: Count Basie and Duke Ellington. The programme will comprise such evergreen character pieces as Basie Straight Ahead, Lil’Darlin’, Cute, Half the Fun and Take the A-Train.
The purpose of visiting institutions is to bring live music to people who would otherwise not be able to enjoy it. Institutional visits take UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra to old people’s homes, hospitals and service housing for the elderly.
