Open Rehearsal:
UMO in Wayne Shorter’s Footprints
Fri 19th October at 12.30 pm // Cable Factory, Helsinki
We recommend using earplugs at the rehearsal.
In their second lunch concert of the season, UMO will delve into the repertory of Wayne Shorter.
Saxophonist-composer Wayne Shorter (b. 1933, USA) is regarded as one of the greatest jazz composers who are still alive and active. He has been a central character in the development of jazz since the 1950s, working with the likes of Miles Davis, Weather Report and Jazz Messengers. He was rewarded for his life work at the Grammy Awards a couple of years ago.
In the concert UMO will be playing big band renditions of Shorter’s key compositions initially written for his smaller ensembles. The programme will also include one completely new Shorter-arrangement from Mikko Hassinen. The pearls featuring in the concert have been handpicked mainly from the 1960s Shorter by the conductor Ville Vannemaa.
