Legendary Jazz Trumpeter Randy Brecker shows no signs of slowing down!
In March 2018 UMO will perform a concert with Grammy-winning trumpeter Randy Brecker and Swedish composer, arranger and conductor Mats Holmquist.
The performance will take place at Musiikkitalo at the Finnish National Wind Instrument Conference (Valtakunnalliset puhallinpäivät) of 2018.
Brecker has already had an incredibly long and impressive career. As well as playing with the likes of Horace Silver and Clark Terry, Randy has made his name in Brecker Brothers with his brother, saxophonist Michael Brecker. In the course of over four decades in music, Randy has not only played on innumerable jazz recordings but also on great many tracks of world-famous pop and rock artists. At the age of 72, Randy Brecker is still going strong and touring actively. His latest performance with UMO was in 2009.
Swedish composer/arranger/conductor Mats Holmquist latest projects are A Tribute to Wayne Shorter with Dave Liebman Big Band, A Tribute to Herbie + 1 with Dick Oatts/Mats Holmquist New York Jazz Orchestra with mostly members from the legendary Vanguard Orchestra and Big band Minimalism with Randy Brecker & Dick Oatts and the Latvian Radio Big Band. In 2011 Holmquist was appointed Artistic Director of JZ All Star Big Band in Shanghai and in 2015 he toured and lectured in Japan. He has also orchestrated and conducted the strings for world famous pop group Roxette.
The concert consists entirely of Mats Holmquist’s compositions and arrangements from several of his albums but also a few newly written “minimalist” renditions of various jazz standards.
The music from the concert will be recorded on a Cd with the working title “Randy Brecker & Mats Holmquist meets UMO” and will be released on the Summit/MAMA record label in USA. Now the audience has an opportunity to take a sneak peek of the coming album.
