Timo Paasonen

b. 1961

Timo Paasonen started his career with Grani Big Band in the late 1970’s. In the 1980’s he kept busy with the Latin American music group Super Samba, the salsa group Fiestecita, and the rock band Clifters, among others. The versatile artist was also involved with musicals and television entertainment programmes.

Paasonen got his first taste of international gigs when working for the Espoo Big Band, and later, since joining the UMO Jazz Orchestra, he has had a chance to tour extensively. In the mid-1990’s he had the honour to work with, for example, Natalie Cole and Manhattan Transfer on their European tours.

Paasonen is not only an old hand in a variety of jazz projects and big bands but he is also keen on expanding and sharing his skills. He is excited about his work at UMO but also about teaching young trumpeters at the Helsinki Pop and Jazz Conservatory.

Currently Timo Paasonen plays in Lohja Big Band and the singer Maarit Hurmerinta’s band. He also works as a freelancer in different projects within the greater Helsinki region.
